Crochetpedia ~ Chainless Foundation Stitches

Hey Craftista!

In this entry of the Crochetpedia series, we will be learning (or reviewing) the Chainless Foundation Stitch. For this entry I have also made a tutorial video to give you a visual representation of what I have presented here, I will link the full video HERE, as well as, link you to the parts of the corresponding sections below.

Chainless Foundation

A chainless foundation is slightly deceivingly named, as you must first chain three before you can  begin the stitches that compose a chainless foundation; the rest of the row involves creating the chain and the stitch as one unit While they may seem more complicated than necessary, this method does come in handy for a variety of reasons making it a useful technique to have at your disposal.

Chainless Single Crochet

Chain three, count back to the first chain and insert your hook, yarn over and pull through. Now you will have two loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through the first loop ONLY creating the bottom of the stitch. Yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook completing a chainless foundation single crochet. To start the next stitch, insert your hook into the bottom of the previous stitch and continue as if you had inserted the hook into the first chain.

Chainless Half Double Crochet
