Cut Yarn leaving a very long tail (24 inches) for sewing. Thread your yarn onto a yarn needle, rotate your work clockwise 180 degrees so your first stitch is now on the “top right” of your piece instead of the “bottom left”. Count 18 stitches to the right of your starting point and insert ur sewing needle into the back loop of the 19th stitch. Begin doing the Mattress Stitch joining the top and bottom of the open area of your piece together for the next 9 stitches. This will give you 18 stitches on each end of the piece unworked. Once you have joined the 9 stitches, skip 9 unworked stitches and loop yarn through the middle of the next stitch, pull til the stitch is joined to the area you have already stitched together, Weave yarn end through the mattress stitch to other end of piece with unworked stitches. This is a good time to stuff with polyfil. Loop yarn through the middle of the 9th stitch on this end. You will now have 4 “holes” . Weave in end to secure. Stuff with Polyfil if needed.

Adding Details
Using white felting wool, create 2 oval shapes between rounds 6-12 on the head leaving 4 sc space between them. Once you are satisfied with the shapes of the eyes, switch to the dark burgandy felting wool and fill in half the oval closest to the center of the face. Lay a strip of the burgandy felt down the center of the oval and felt a curved edge so that a small section of the white felt still shows. Create a small crescent shape on the bottom of each eye with the dark pink color and a white spot towards the top of the eye for an animated finishing touch.
Using either dark grey felting wool or a small piece of dark grey yarn, felt Chikoritas mouth in a slightly zigzag line below the eyes.
Thank you so much for choosing my pattern to create your Chikorita! Enjoy!
