Esmeralda- the Honduran Emerald Hummingbird

Like many of us who grew up in the 90’s, when someone says hummingbird I immediately think of Flit from Disney’s Pocahontas. I loved his stubborn personality and how comedic his relationship with the rambunctious Meeko was. Flit is a ruby-throated Hummingbird, which are known to having the broadest migration range of Hummingbirds in the United States. While they may spend their summer breeding months in northern climates, like Virginia with Pocahontas, these hummingbirds must migrate back to Central America for the winter season.

Central America is also home to the Honduran Emerald Hummingbird, the only native bird of Honduras, and is also an endangered species. This stunningly colored bird was once on the Critically Endangered Species list due to it loss of habitat, which was already limited; the habit shrank to 10% of its original land size. In recent years the population has begun to return very gradually thanks to places like the Honduran Emerald Reserve in the Aguan Valley. You can read more about the Honduran Emerald HERE and HERE.

I.ve recently added quite a few security measures to my site to prevent theft, so I’m not sure if you will be able to print it. However, if it is for personal use only, and the site allows it, then I don’t mind if you print it. If you have issues let me know. Also, my site is formatted to work on a mobile device as well, so you could also use it on your phone or tablet!
