,commas are used to indicate when stitches worked into one stitch slot ends. Example: 1 sc 1 dc 1sc, sl st  = 1sc 1 dc 1 sc into one stitch and then 1 sl st into the next stitch.

How to do the Star Stitch by New Stitch a Day

Gauge

15 sc x 15 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm

(Guage is important in order to achieve the correct dimensions)

Dimensions for this roof: 22 cm wide x 14 cm tall NOT including edging

Roof

Begin using White…

Row 1: Ch 35, 1 sc into the back bump of 2nd chain from hook, 33 sc.(34 stitches)
Row 2:Ch 2, turn, pick up a loop thru the front strand of the 2nd chain from hook, pick up a loop thru the back loop of the 2nd chain from hook, pick up a loop in each of the next 3 sc(6 loops on hook), yo and pull thru all 6 loops, Ch 1. *Pick up a loop thru the last chain(eye of star), pick up a loop thru the back loop of last pull thru of last star, pick up a loop thru sc of last pull thru of previous star, pick up a loop in the next 2 sc(6 loops on hook), yo and pull through all 6 loops, Ch 1.* repeat * 15 more times, 1 hdc into the same stitch as the last pull thru of the last star stitch.( 7 star stitches + 1 hdc)
Row 3:Ch 1, turn, 1 sc2tog(on top of the hdc and first eye of star), 1 sc into eye of star, 1 scinc into each “eye of star” across, 1 sc into turning chain.(35 stitches)
Rows 4-17:Repeat Rows 2 and 3  

Turn work clockwise 90 degrees to continue with edging….

Edging

Part 1:Sc into side of Row 17, 2 sc into side of Row 16, repeat this pattern(1 sc into rows of sc, 2 sc into rows with star stitch) until Row 1. 2 sc into side of Row 1.
Part 2: * sk 2 st, 7 dc in same st, sk 2 st, sl st* repeat * 3 more times, 1 sl st. Fasten off and weave in end.
Part 3:Attach yarn to Row 1(Stars facing away from you). 2 sc into side of Row 1, *2 sc into side of Row 2, 1 sc into side of Row 3* repeat pattern up the side of piece working 2 sc into row of dc’s and 1 sc into the rows with bobbles.Turn.
Part 4:Sl St, * sk 2 st, 7 dc in same st, sk 2 st, sl st* repeat * 3 more times. Turn work 90 degrees, * sk 2 st, 7 dc in same st, sk 2 st, sl st* repeat * 5 more times.

Once finished, cut your tail quite long so you can sew it onto the plastic mesh. You can hide your ends between the mesh and the crochet piece.

Cut two pieces of plastic mesh measuring 20cmx14cm

Sew roof pieces to the mesh.

(Note: you can also glue the piece to the mesh, but I suggest sewing, since it is more secure.)

Use the mattress stitch to seam the tops of the roof pieces together to form a hinge.
