Cut 18 pieces of yarn, in the same color as the “wrapper section”, in the length that matches the size hat you are making.

Baby: 20 inches

Child: 24 inches

Section the strands into 6 groups of 3 yarn strands.

Attach 1 group of strands to each end of the ear flap by pulling them half way  through the last stitch in Row 4, then attach 1 group of strands in the same way to the muddle stitch. Braid the sections together.

Ch 90, 5 dc in the 3rd ch from hook, sk 2 ch, slst, * sk 2 ch, 5 dc in same ch, sk 2 ch, slst* repeat til the end of the chain. 15 shells total.

Ch 96, 5 dc in the 3rd ch from hook, sk 2 ch, slst, * sk 2 ch, 5 dc in same ch, sk 2 ch, slst* repeat til the end of the chain. 16 shells total.

Using the whip stitch, attach around your hat to hide where the “frosting” meets the “wrapper”. Each shell is equal to 2 rows of “frosting”.

Pom Pom

Create a pom pom using either a pom pom maker or ur hand. I used the 2 ½ inch pom pom maker from clover for the BABY and TODDLER hats, and the 3 ⅜ inch pom pom maker for the CHILD hat.

Attach the pom pom to the top of your hat to cover the cinched hole.

Thank you for choosing my pattern! Enjoy!

    Thanks for this cute pattern!
I’m wondering…. when working up the frosting, I find my work is going on an angle. I feel this is to why the frosting looks twisted on the photo. The 2 chains are to account for the height only.
Am I correct in thinking both of these thoughts.
Thanks for your assistance with this matter

Hi Lorene!! Yes the chain 2 is for the height only! I will add a note in the pattern about that, Thank you!
The frosting section should indeed be slanted rows and not straight across, this gives the swirl look when it is finished!
Thank you so much for choosing my pattern!!! Let me know if u need any more help 🙂

Hi! Thanks sooo much for this super cute pattern! I never made anything like this and it was easy to follow. I did add a row of single crochet before I started the wrapper section to make the transition smoother 😊

This is really cool but I would like to make this for an adult, is there any chance you could make a larger version of this pattern, if not, how should I alter this to fit an adults head?

I could eventually make a larger version, but it wouldn’t be for a while, as I am swamped with Christmas projects lool. Depending on how big the person’s head it, you could just go up a hook size and use the child-size for a small adult.
